John Lawrie Tubulars Update

Significant Investment as Major Tubulars Supplier Expands Offering for Construction Market

One of the largest suppliers of steel tubular products in the UK, John Lawrie Tubulars Ltd, has further outlined its commitment to supporting the construction sector by investing a seven-figure sum in new assets, making it the most valuable one-stop, fully in-house service provider in the UK. These new facilities also mean the company is perfectly positioned to offer services to new clients in the mining, water wells and minerals industries.

In-house services now include the manufacture of drill rods, casing products such as rotary percussive, BS 879, BS 4019, piling casing, micropile and casing advancement systems, swedged pipe for driven piles, helical piles, pipe and fabrication for rail and highways as well as top driven piling.

Major Tubulars Supplier Expands Offering for Construction Market

The installation of seven CNC lathes as well as a friction welder – the only friction welder on offer owned by a dedicated drill rod manufacturer in the UK – will see the company become the only business offering such a diverse range of services to the UK construction piling industry.

The company specialises in repurposing redundant steel tubulars from the North Sea oil and gas industry as a high-quality, high-grade alternative to new manufactured prime steel products in the construction piling industry. Extending the life of materials through reuse and repurpose is at the core of the business, we reduce environmental impacts, improve sustainability, cut greenhouse gases and minimise waste, pollution and water.

Vic Sinclair, CEO, commented: “We have recently made this significant investment in developing our UK facilities and, following the purchase of a number of new assets, are now perfectly positioned to offer services to new clients in the mining, water wells and minerals industries (as well as construction) in order to maximise the opportunity for repurposing products that would otherwise go to waste.

“We aim to keep moving our Tubulars business forward, expanding our service offering and reaching new markets we have not previously worked with before. Innovation is key to our growth strategy so we’re looking forward to continuing to evolve our business to meet market demands.”

John Lawrie Tubulars has also recently outlined its commitment to improving environmental practices and reducing carbon emissions by investing in a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) based on its own unique steel tubular management processes. The findings detail that for every tonne of John Lawrie’s repurposed steel tubulars used there is a carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) saving of 97.21% over the production of new manufactured prime steel products.

The report presents the bespoke environmental impact and benefits of the repurposing and onward delivery of John Lawrie Tubulars’ products. It compares the impact of the company’s repurposed tubulars to that made by new manufactured prime steel throughout their lifecycle.

The new, built-for-purpose UK based manufacturing facility includes a new machine shop to house seven semi-automatic CNC lathes as well new friction welding facilities and a second inspection building ensuring the continuous improvement of working conditions for its team. All of this complements the company’s existing pipe cleaning and fully automated saw cutting facilities, with the ability to cut up to one metre in diameter.

The company manages a vast and extensive inventory of tubulars for construction use, holding a stock of over 80,000 tonnes at any given time. This ensures the company can provide the right steel products to suit any project, with the capability to deliver at short notice straight to site.

John Lawrie Tubulars services some of the UK’s largest piling contractors with the products they need, consistently delivering a service they can trust.
