REPURPOSED TUBULAR PILING SUPPORTS STABILISATION GRADE II LISTED BRIDGE

Using John Lawrie Tubulars’ repurposed tubular products and bespoke procedures saved this project 32.45tCO2e. (That’s a 97.21% saving over the production of new prime steel products).

Project Summary

Ivor King, one of the UK’s leading sheet piling and bored piling contractors, was contracted to install piling to assist with the structural stability of a Grade II listed bridge near York which dated back to 1650.

An inspection of the bridge in 2017 identified serious defects to the arches and other elements of the masonry caused by frequent flooding. East Riding of Yorkshire Council therefore commissioned work to stabilise the historic Old Bridge at Kexby, which crosses the river Derwent in parallel with the A1079, and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

Ivor King installed 13No. of John Lawrie Tubulars’ 340mm steel cased driven piles to a depth of 16m using a mini-rig sited on modular floating pontoons within the river. The steel casings were rotary driven prior to grouting and reinforcement.

For this project, a reduction of 32.45t CO2e was achieved.
