Supply of 140mm repurposed steel casing tube for 29 residential plots in Norfolk
Using John Lawrie Tubulars’ repurposed tubular products and bespoke procedures saved this project 218.46 tonnes of CO2e. That’s a 97.21% saving over the production of new prime steel products.
Steel tube piles were selected to ensure that piles could be driven through various sand layers into the required bearing stratum.
Project Summary
Akela Ground Engineering (appointed by Persimmon Homes) designed and installed a piling solution for 29 residential plots at their new Downham Market development in Norfolk.
369 piles were required to be driven to form foundations for these houses, the piles were driven to depths of 6-12m into dense sand layers.
John Lawrie Tubulars provided 140mm diameter steel tubes in various lengths which were jointed together. Due to the variation in ground conditions, steel tubes were supplied in lengths of 3, 4 and 6m to minimise pile wastage.
The piles were driven with Akela’s specialist JX25-8 lightweight piling rig which is ideal for residential sites and allowed our customer to reduce piling platform requirements.
