John Lawrie Tubulars operates a full cap cleaning, inspection and shredding service for the re-use and recycling of plastic caps.

During 2023/24 John Lawrie Tubulars invested £250k in a cap inspection and cleaning facility. This investment demonstrates John Lawrie Tubulars’ dedication to continual improvement within the business, now all OCTG suppliers are safe in the knowledge that John Lawrie Tubulars has created a closed loop circular economy.

Our plastic caps cleaning and inspection service benefits our suppliers, and reduces the need for production of new caps by keeping the caps in use for longer.

Our decommissioning process for Plastic End Protectors

• We receive pipes into our yard which are capped for health and safety purposes.
• The Oil and Gas industry are required to cap pipes to prevent damage and mitigate risk of contamination and other threats. We have a responsibility to our staff and the environment to keep the pipes capped until they are ready to be re-used or re-manufactured.
• On site in our Montrose facility caps are removed safely and responsibly. We refuse to make unnecessary contributions to landfill, and have built a dedicated cap cleaning building within our yard to remove, clean, and package or recycle damaged caps.
• We have been recycling caps for as long as we can remember, but since we installed our bespoke shredding machine (in 2023) we have been doing this in house. Using our purpose built shredder, we have reduced our CO₂ emissions through minimising unnecessary transport.
• More recently we have installed a dedicated cap cleaning building in the yard which allows us to clean, inspect and package up caps ready to be sent back to our suppliers to limit the need to production of new caps.
• When our suppliers choose us – we can work together to reduce our impact on the planet.
